Programming in the AHC Learning Commons involves:

  • Working with faculty and staff to determine how to best deliver their message online, such as blogs, wikis, and email mailing lists
  • Consulting with faculty and staff to determine where their courses should live (e.g., Moodle, Web Vista, CD, or a Web server)
  • Developing a course structure in HTML/CSS based on a graphic design concept and a content storyboard Creating Flash interactions.

Videography in the AHC Learning Commons involves:

  • Consulting with faculty and staff about how best to communicate using motion graphics
  • Providing studio and on-location audio and video recording and editing
  • Working with the instructional design team to encode to the appropriate digital format for motion graphics (Flash, Quicktime, MP4, etc).

Instructional Design in the AHC Learning Commons involves:

  • Establishing learner outcomes for learning programs
  • Creating a course design or blueprint that focuses on the learner
  • Serving as a resource to faculty for techniques and technologies that enhance learning
  • Collaborating with faculty to establish content and to develop courseware.

Administration in the AHC Learning Commons involves:

  • Meeting with faculty to learn about their current courses or projects and their goals to create online or hybrid educational programs.
  • Discussing possible options for learner-centered, technology-enhanced solutions using the UMN Learning Platform technologies.
  • Developing a proposal that describes details about the project, including learning outcomes, topics, student activities, assessment strategies, as well as the proposed process, timeframe, and budget.
  • Finalizing the plan and scheduling the project kick-off with the faculty and the AHC Learning Commons instructional design team.
  • Overseeing the ongoing usage of the AHC Learning Commons site at 535 Diehl Hall.

Graphic Design in the AHC Learning Commons involves:

  • Working with faculty and staff to determine the message each course design should protray and they type of appeal the course should have for learners
  • Finding the most effective way to get messages across in print, Internet, and /or film media using a variety of methods such as color, type, illustration, photography, and animation.

Course Coordination in the AHC Learning Commons involves:

  • Ensuring timely development and project completion by tracking quality, budget, and schedule
  • Clearly communicating roles and expectations
  • Documenting project status, communication, and decisions
  • Maintaining quality standards to provide consistency across processes and projects

Interactive Conferencing in the AHC Learning Commons involves:

  • Providing proper equipment set up to allow meeting participants from different physical locations to see and speak with one another.
  • Consulting with faculty and staff about best practices in interactive conferencing.

Faculty Consulting in the AHC Learning Commons involves:

  • Responding to phone calls and emails from faculty with information about using the AHC Learning Commons space and with answers to questions about specific instructional technologies.
  • Providing short one-on-one tutorials for faculty who want to solve practical problems with technology, such as WebVista, Moodle, UMConnect, Wimba, and other tools that comprise the University's Learning Platform.
