Services

The AHC Learning Commons Group was established as an internal service organization (ISO) in March, 2002. As an instructional design and development service organization, our mission is to:

provide innovative, comprehensive, high quality, and reasonably-priced technology-enhanced learning services that support excellence in education throughout all AHC schools, colleges, and programs.

The AHC Learning Commons Group focuses upon learners and the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that learners should be able to demonstrate at the completion of each educational program. The selection of learning method—including technology—is determined by:

The nature of the learning environment
Target audience
Planned learning outcomes
Content defined for each particular course.

The AHC Learning Commons Group integrates a wide variety of technology tools into educational programs such as: WebVista, Moodle, Wimba, collaborative sites, myU portal features, discussions, wikis, blogs, video and audio production, UMConnect (Adobe Acrobat Connect), podcasts, vodcasts, and others.

Course Development

The AHC Learning Commons Group collaborates with faculty members or departments to define a project; develop a proposal of services, timelines, and costs; and eventually an agreement for services. Cost of services is based upon an estimated number of hours required to complete the proposed project, at $70/hour for each member’s time.

Course development, or instructional design, follows a defined series of steps: analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate (with ongoing refinement and update).
