Collaboration Sites
Select from the variety of UMN technology tools to develop online sites for multiple users to:
Courses
The AHC Learning Commons develops a wide range of educational programs using the WebVista and Moodle course management systems, as well as Dreamweaver/html and Flash-based courses. Courseware typically contains a number of user interactions, many graphics, some video or audio presentations, peer-to-peer interactions, and learning assessments.
Flash Animations and Online Interactions
Because successful adult learning requires active participation in the learning process, online interactions and Flash animations are integrated throughout our courseware, as appropriate. Animations are useful to explain basic and scientific concepts. Interactions reinforce learning and provide an opportunity for self-assessment.
Graphic Design and Illustrations
Educational materials not only need to provide clear and important education, but they need to look nice! The AHC Learning Commons Group designs each course to reflect the identify of the school and/or the topic to be learned. Photographs, iconic art, and data tables are presented to support optimal learning. Medical and technical illustrations can be developed to support speaker presentations and or course development.
Posters and Publicity
The AHC learning Commons produces posters, brochures, bookmarks and other collateral materials to help publicize conferences, workshops, and other events.
UMConnect
PowerPoint slides supported by an audio presentation provides an effective means to address audiences in multiple locations, both synchronously and asynchronously, through UMConnect. Video segments can be added to selectively demonstrate processes and specific learning topics.
Video
Video is a powerful method to introduce courses and instructors in online learning, to demonstrate methods and processes, conduct and capture interviews, and to creatively present a learning activity. The AHC Learning Commons’ green-screen and teleprompter digital technologies make the video-taping session less intimidating for those being recorded.
Web and Video Conferencing
The University of Minnesota offers a variety of options for inexpensively and efficiently conducting meetings and sharing presentations across campuses and institutions, locally, nationally, and around the world. The AHC Learning Commons can determine the optimal means to conduct each Web- or video-conference and support its implementation.
Web sites
Although Web sites are an excellent means to provide information to users, they can also be used to encourage users to actively interact with the site and provide feedback and ideas. The AHC Learning Commons Group can develop interactive Web sites that meet a wide variety of educational and publicity purposes.
Webcasts, Vodcasts, and Podcasts
Today’s learners expect the convenience of anytime-anywhere learning, particularly through mobile devices. The University of Minnesota offers options that include iTunesU, UMConnect Presenter, YouTube channels, and other options to capture and present presentations via mobile devices.
The AHC Learning Commons Group can help record the presentation and select and deliver it via the selected format.
